The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red has filed a trademark for
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game with the European Union Intellectual
Property Office.
The entry—which was discovered by NerdLeaks—indicates
the mark was filed on June 6, and shows a logo for the game. IGN has
reached out to CD Projekt Red for more information on Gwent: The Witcher
Card Game, and will update this post should the developer respond.
CD Projekt Red has spoken about its plans to release "a new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio."
It's possible the new format will be applied to the reported Gwent
game, and more information could be revealed at E3 next week.
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine expansion debuted May 31. Some players have been experiencing in-game glitches, which CD Projekt Red hopes to fix with the next patch. Among other things, the expansion added a bunch of new Gwent cards to the game.
CD Projekt Red is also working on its next project, Cyberpunk 2077, which is expected to be "more ambitious" than The Witcher 3's development "on every single front."
